Eventually, the trail will extend to Belfast where work is underway to push west from Route 137 and meet the existing trail at Frye Mountain in Montville. Work is underway to extend the trail from Unity to Montville where it will connect with the 28-mile network of trails managed by the Midcoast Conservancy and Georges River Land Trust. This trail was one of those sections the other is in Freedom. The first phase of the Hills-to-Sea Trail connecting downtown Unity to the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association's (MOFGA) land in Unity was completed in 2013. Two more sections were added in 2015. Some of the properties it travels through have their own trail networks, so be sure to follow the Hills to Sea blazes and markers. Our trail is marked with blue blazes and yellow Hills to Sea logo signs. Please always respect the land and the landowners. It crosses ME-7 (parking on east side) and currently ends at ME-137 near the Belfast Area Children’s Center (weekend parking only). This section of the Hills to Sea Trail begins there, crosses Oak Hill Road, and continues for 4.6 miles west through forested land in Waldo. The Rail Trail runs 2.3 miles upriver along the Passagassawakeag River to the City Point Railroad Station and Museum (parking). From Belfast, the Hills to Sea Trail uses the Passy Rail Trail, starting at the Footbridge on the Harbor Walk (parking).
